Ali Fazal teases Mirzapur The Film’s plotline: ‘It has to be back in time because there are…’

There has been a lot of buzz around Mirzapur The Film since the day it was announced. In a recent interview, actor Ali Fazal, who played Guddu Pandit in the web series Mirzapur, addressed rumours about the storyline of Mirzapur The Film, and said that it might go “back in time”. Actor Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Anjali Anand, and Roshan Mathew were also a part of the discussion, talking about their processes of finding a character, the differences between tackling a series vs a film, and the roles they’re tired of getting offered.

In an actors roundtable conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Ali said, “We are very excited. Its the OG cast and we are going at the back of the table. Back in time, I suppose. It has to be back in time because there are like some dead people walking.” “So Mirzapur prequel?” the moderator asked. The actor then replied, “You will find out. But, we are really excited to bring it to the theatres. Peaky Blinders also did that. It wasn’t like a one off or an odd choice of move.”

Earlier, in an interview with Sucharita Tyagi, Ali Fazal talked about how he puts his foot down in terms of the violence in Mirzapur. He had said, “Mirzapur is half of that. It’s violent, and I’m not violent. My insides don’t accept that. It’s also because of the news you’re watching. I better be able to handle that violence, because there are real people out there who are going through s**t. Our films are obviously going to reflect a part of that. On Mirzapur, there was a scene where I kill someone in what I thought at the time was a very unnecessary way to execute that scene. And I just couldn’t redeem myself. The character also could not have redeemed itself from that. I thought it was just wrong, like why would you write that? I had to constantly battle my head and the character’s, and not judge that. And at the same time, I’m asking the filmmaker, ‘Why?’ But then there are so many whys. You sit down with the writers, the directors, and that could turn into an ugly…”

Mirzapur The Film is helmed by Gurmmeet Singh and backed by Excel Entertainment. The theatrical release has been scheduled for 2026.
